Overview
- The Punjab Safe Cities Authority launched the CM Punjab QR Panic Button System Sunday, June 7, 2026, and plans to install QR codes on buses, wagons, rickshaws, taxis and other public transport across the province.
- PSCA says the platform bundles 12 features on one interface, including emergency voice and video calls, live chat, live location sharing, vehicle and driver verification, family trip sharing and an option for drivers to request help.
- Vehicle owners and drivers will be able to obtain QR panic buttons for free through the Public Safety App or the PSCA website, and codes are tied to vehicle registration so previously issued codes are deactivated after ownership changes.
- When a code is scanned or a panic alert is triggered the system will automatically send live location and vehicle data to the Safe City Control Room for monitoring and to prompt dispatch to Emergency 15, according to officials.
- Senior officials endorsed the initiative as part of the Digital Punjab vision, but reporting so far reflects only official claims and gives no independent assessment or detailed rollout schedule for coverage and effectiveness.
