Punjab Launches Near-Universal Monthly Cash Aid for Women in 2026–27 Budget

The AAP government allocated Rs 9,300 crore with enrolment slated for April 13.

Overview

  • Under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna, most adult women will receive Rs 1,000 per month, while women from Scheduled Castes will receive Rs 1,500.
  • Eligibility excludes current or former permanent government employees, current or former MPs/MLAs, and income tax payers, yet women on existing social security pensions remain eligible.
  • Officials say the design targets near-universal coverage at roughly 97% of adult women, positioning Punjab’s approach against more narrowly targeted schemes in other states.
  • Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said registrations open on Baisakhi, April 13, with special camps planned to help women complete formalities.
  • The announcement was part of a Rs 2,60,437 crore budget that imposes no new taxes and projects a fiscal deficit of 4.08% of GSDP, with expanded allocations for social welfare, health, education and agriculture.
