Punjab, Jammu Division Set Winter Breaks for Schools Starting Dec. 22

Officials cite a cold spell as a health measure to protect school communities.

Overview

  • Punjab’s School Education Department ordered all government and private schools to close from December 22 to January 11, with classes resuming on Monday, January 12.
  • The Punjab notification covers primary, middle, secondary, and higher secondary institutions under a uniform schedule across the province.
  • The Directorate of School Education Jammu announced a phase-wise break for summer-zone schools: pre-primary to Class 5 from December 22, Classes 6–8 from December 26, and Classes 9–12 from December 29, all ending January 10.
  • DSEJ directed teaching staff to remain available during the break, to report on January 10, and warned that any violation of the schedule will invite strict action.
  • Both authorities framed the closures as health-focused decisions tied to cold weather and instructed schools and families to plan according to the official schedules.
