Punjab Fog Forces Wider Motorway Closures as Crashes Kill Three

Officials said the shutdowns aim to protect travelers in dangerously low visibility.

Overview

  • Motorway Police reported fresh closures including M2 from Lahore to Hiran Minar, M3 from Faizpur to Rajana, M4 from Pindi Bhattian to Multan, and M5 from Multan to Rohri.
  • At least three people were killed and 20 injured in separate bus accidents in Sadiqabad and near Zahir Pir during the early hours of Wednesday.
  • Dense fog also reduced visibility on multiple national highway stretches, with slowdowns and stoppages reported around Manga Mandi, Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, Chichawatni, Mian Channu and Khanewal.
  • Authorities urged drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, keep lane discipline, use fog lights, reduce speed, maintain safe distances and travel in daylight hours where possible, recommending a 10 a.m.–6 p.m. window.
  • Air quality remained hazardous across several cities, with reported AQI readings of about 342 in Lahore, 435 in Peshawar and 278 in Faisalabad, prompting advice to limit outdoor activity.
