Overview
- The bench of Justices Lisa Gill and Pramod Goyal issued notices to the Union of India, the UGC, the BCI and O.P. Jindal Global University.
- The petitioner, Nipun Gupta, says he paid Rs 22.68 lakh and graduated in June 2025 only to receive a standard LL.B. instead of an honours degree.
- O.P. Jindal’s reported position is that references to “Hons.” were typographical errors and that the university was not authorised to run an LL.B. (Hons.) programme.
- The petition cites prospectus, offer letters, fee schedules, an ID card and the three-year refund policy as showing the honours nomenclature throughout the course.
- The plea seeks a regulator-led inquiry with possible sanctions, or alternatively correction of degree records or Rs 30 lakh in compensation, with about 300 students allegedly affected.
