Overview
- The High Court granted regular bail to Pathanmajra in the Patiala rape and cheating case in an order dated May 29, 2026, and conditioned release on furnishing bail and surety bonds.
- The court said being declared a proclaimed person and facing multiple pending FIRs were not by themselves sufficient to deny bail and noted threats alleged against the complainant were not shown on record.
- The FIR filed on September 1, 2025, charges Pathanmajra under Sections 376, 420 and 506 of the IPC, with Section 376(2)(n) and Sections 494 and 495 later added during investigation.
- The complainant says she met Pathanmajra in 2013–14, married him in 2021 while he was already married, and accused him of misrepresentation, cheating and intimidation; the defence says the case is politically motivated and points to a 2024 DIG inquiry that found no offence.
- Pathanmajra was arrested on March 24–25 after being declared a proclaimed person and slipping out of the country, he had also secured bail on May 25 in a separate September 2025 mining case and his release from Bathinda jail followed the High Court order.
