Overview
- The child went missing from Platform No. 3 around 1:30 am on February 17 as her family, migrant labourers returning home, slept while waiting for a connecting train.
- Police said CCTV footage showed a man leading the girl away by the hand, after which GRP and RPF teams tracked and detained the suspect within hours near the station.
- The accused has been identified as Mahesh Mamal Yadav, aged about 24–25, a resident of Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh.
- Pune Railway Police registered an FIR under BNS Sections 137(2), 65(2) and 217, along with POCSO Act Sections 4, 6, 9 and 10.
- Investigators report the girl said she was lured with snacks, and officers added that the accused initially gave false identity details as forensic and legal procedures continue.
