Pune Police Book Seven After Vandalism at Sahyadri Hospital Following Patient’s Death

Police plan a medical board review of a negligence allegation.

Overview

  • Relatives damaged glass panes by pelting stones and using barricade stands at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital’s Hadapsar branch on Wednesday morning after an elderly patient died during treatment.
  • Officers said more than a dozen people were involved in the ruckus, police teams detained participants at the scene, and no injuries were reported.
  • An offence was registered against seven people, including the deceased patient’s son, under the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Institutions Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
  • The hospital said the patient was admitted on November 28 with acute pancreatitis and an internal perforation that was surgically repaired, later deteriorated due to long-standing comorbidities, and died despite guideline-based care.
  • The patient’s son alleged negligence, claiming staff actions caused surgical stitches to snap, and police said all records will be placed before a medical board to decide next steps.
