Overview
- The case began after a 27-year-old Wagholi resident reported being lured on January 11 to Kondhwa, where he was assaulted and robbed following a meetup arranged via a profile identifying as ‘Rahil’.
- Investigators say the attackers stole jewellery, a phone and cash, and forced the victim to divulge his ATM PIN, which was used to withdraw ₹10,500.
- Pune city police arrested five suspects and identified them as Rahil Akil Shaikh, Nuhan Naeem Shaikh, Wahid Dastagir Shaikh, Shahid Shahnoor Momin and Ishan Nisar Shaikh.
- Kondhwa police cite CCTV review, analysis of the dating-app ID and phone records, and bank transaction trails as key to tracing the suspects.
- Authorities have filed charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and obtained police custody until January 23 as the probe expands to two additional cases from late December.
