Overview
- The crash, which occurred Saturday around 10:30 am near the Kalyan Bhel shop on Bibwewadi–Kondhwa Road, left 47-year-old hotelier Anil Sitaram Alhat dead.
- Police said the speeding tanker struck his two-wheeler and the bike slipped under the rear wheels before he was taken to a hospital, where he died.
- Market Yard police detained driver Nilesh Laxman Pote, 36, after a complaint by Alhat’s nephew, Mahadev Kamble, led to a formal case.
- Officers also booked owner Bagtavarmal, also reported as Bhagwat, Rathi after finding the tanker’s fitness certificate had expired under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
- This is the second tanker-linked death in three weeks after an April 5 fatal crash in the NIBM–Kondhwa area, and a local corporator and the victim’s family are urging stricter curbs on heavy vehicles, illegal parking, and wrong-side driving.
