Pune Constable Held in Seized-Drug Theft as Bengaluru Police Dismantle Inter-State Trafficking Ring

Investigators are seeking court approval to open sealed evidence stores to quantify misappropriation.

Overview

  • Following a January 17–18 seizure in Shirur, Pune Rural Police arrested four suspects, including constable Shyamsundar Gujar, who is accused of siphoning drugs from the Ahilyanagar muddemal by tampering with seals and swapping the contents with another powder.
  • The seized substance was confirmed as crystalline alprazolam rather than mephedrone, bringing probe-linked recoveries to about 10.7 kg allegedly diverted from a larger consignment taken in May last year.
  • Police said they will reopen the sealed inventory with court permission to determine the exact shortfall and to check for additional insiders or missing contraband.
  • In a separate Bengaluru operation conducted January 19–22, Amruthahalli police arrested 10 people and seized narcotics and assets worth roughly Rs 4 crore, including 3 kg of hydro ganja, 50 g of MDMA, 500 g of charas, 500 LSD strips, 10 kg of ganja, two cars, 14 phones, and cash.
  • Investigators in Bengaluru say the gang sourced hydro ganja from Thailand using mules who concealed consignments in checked baggage, with efforts under way to trace the wider supply chain and identify the network’s leadership.
