- The recall, announced July 3, covers one 10-ounce lot of Frozen GreenWise Organic IQF Blueberries (lot code 60401, best-by Feb. 9, 2028) sold at Publix in eight states.
- Federal and state investigators have linked 12 confirmed E. coli O145:H28 illnesses reported between May 11 and June 5 to the product and say four people were hospitalized.
- Chile-based supplier Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. told customers to isolate the affected lot, stop distribution, notify downstream buyers, and is working with regulators to find the contamination source.
- Consumers who have the recalled bag are advised not to eat it and should discard it or return it to the store for a full refund; officials also recommend cleaning any surfaces or containers that contacted the berries.
- Frozen fruit can keep germs active for months so investigators warn the outbreak footprint could grow and say the probe may add more products or lots if supply-chain tracing or lab tests find further contamination.
