Public Theater to Mount North American Premiere of Benjamin Button Musical

The Off-Broadway run reunites the West End creative team behind the Olivier-winning show to bring the actor-musician production to New York.

Overview

  • The Public Theater announced on Thursday that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will run in the Newman Theater from October 8 through November 15 with an official opening on October 21.
  • Tony nominee Andrew Durand will lead a 15-person actor-musician company as Benjamin Button, with principal cast members including Kelsee Kimmel and Britney Coleman and a group of named swings and understudies.
  • Director and scenic designer Jethro Compton has reassembled the original London creative team, retaining choreographer Chi-San Howard, music director Mark Aspinall, costume designer Anna Kelsey, lighting designer Zoe Spurr, and sound designer Luke Swaffield.
  • The musical began at Southwark Playhouse in 2019, transferred in expanded form to the West End’s Ambassadors Theatre in 2024, and won the 2025 Olivier Award for Best New Musical, establishing strong U.K. recognition ahead of the U.S. premiere.
  • Tickets are on sale at PublicTheater.org, and the New York staging could broaden the show’s U.S. profile and open the door to further commercial opportunities if it resonates with New York audiences.
