PSNI Probes Malicious Emails to Antrim Schools After Non-Credible Threat

Police say the emails sought to sow disruption rather than pose a real, immediate threat.

Overview

  • PSNI opened a malicious communications investigation Tuesday after multiple schools and businesses in County Antrim received a threatening email.
  • Officers assessed the messages as a deliberate attempt to cause significant disruption, said nothing suspicious was found, and called the threat not credible.
  • Police said six schools were affected in areas including Randalstown, Ballycraigy and Antrim town, with several businesses hit and one based in Ballycastle also named.
  • Schools adopted precautionary measures, with St Benedict’s College locking doors and keeping pupils indoors as the Education Authority liaised with PSNI.
  • Detectives are examining a link to a false report to a Mull Road address on Monday night, and the public was urged not to share related posts and to report information quoting reference 162 19/05/26.
