Proxy Voting Still Open for March 15 Municipal Elections in France

Certified digital identity holders can now complete proxy requests entirely online through France Identité.

Overview

  • The government states there is no legal cutoff to establish a proxy, yet officials urge doing it early so identity checks and municipal registration are completed in time for the first round on March 15.
  • Requests can be made online via Maprocuration or by using a paper Cerfa form validated in person at a police station, gendarmerie, judicial court, or consulate.
  • If you do not have a certified digital identity, you must verify your identity in person with an authorized official for the proxy to be valid.
  • France Identité now allows certified users to validate identity remotely and finalize the entire procuration process online without traveling.
  • A designated proxy may hold only one procuration established in France, and voters can choose validity for the first round, the second round, or both, with one procuration covering all municipal ballots in Paris, Lyon, and Marseille.
