ProSiebenSat.1 Greenlights Kommissar Rex Season 2 and Joko & Klaas Iceland Series

The group is pairing a successful nostalgia revival with star-led reality to boost linear ratings, expanding Joyn’s streaming catalogue in the process.

Overview

  • ProSiebenSat.1 announced at the Screenforce Festival that Kommissar Rex has been renewed for a second season to air in spring 2027 with Maximilian Brückner and the Schäferhund Rex returning and MR-Film producing in co-production with Sat.1 and ORF.
  • The company confirmed production, world distribution by Beta Film, and public funding support from FISAplus, Fernsehfonds Austria and the state of Lower Austria for the new Kommissar Rex episodes.
  • A new six-episode Joyn format titled 'Joko & Klaas machen Urlaub' will film the hosts on a filmed Iceland roadtrip produced by Florida Entertainment GmbH that the network describes as vacation footage without challenges or winners.
  • ProSiebenSat.1 said the April 2026 relaunch of Kommissar Rex comprised six 90-minute episodes, delivered ratings well above the channel average, and all past seasons are available on Joyn.
  • The group also announced a broader slate of returning hits and new shows — including Germany's Next Topmodel, The Voice, Die Millionenidee with Ralf Dümmel and Joyn’s Dschungel Divas — while many launch dates remain to be scheduled and the moves are framed to attract advertisers to linear slots and to build Joyn’s library.
