Prosecutors Add 2015 Infant Murder Charge in Oxnard Case Against Marisol Flores

The amended filing follows new evidence from the February newborn death investigation.

Overview

  • An amended complaint filed March 10 adds one count of murder and one count of assault on a child causing death tied to a 2015 death of a 25-day-old baby.
  • Prosecutors also filed special allegations, including use of a deadly weapon, vulnerability of the victim, and a multiple-murder special circumstance.
  • If the special circumstance is proved, Flores could face life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
  • Criminal proceedings are suspended after her attorney raised a doubt about competency on Feb. 27, with a court-ordered evaluation underway and a March 26 competency hearing set.
  • The medical examiner ruled the February newborn’s death a homicide caused by sharp force injury to the head at a homeless encampment in Oxnard; Flores remains jailed on $500,000 bail.
