PROOF Research Unveils Exponential Twist Rifling

Easing how a bullet first meets the rifling, the design aims to cut engraving force and spread wear across the bore while independent testing and ammunition tuning are still needed.

Overview

  • PROOF Research publicly announced the PROOF Exponential Twist (PXT) rifling system in a May 20–21 launch that the company says rethinks how a projectile is brought up to spin.
  • PXT progressively increases twist from a very slow breech rate to the final muzzle rate so the bullet is eased into rotation rather than forced abruptly into the lands.
  • Company testing and partner trials report large gains: reductions in rifling lead angle of 95–98%, about 30% lower engraving force, 30–100% longer barrel life, and 20–50% better shot-to-shot consistency.
  • PROOF has begun selling PXT as barrel blanks, AR barrels, select pre-fits and in two complete Elevation FDX rifle platforms with published starting MSRPs and dealer availability.
  • The technology grew from medium-caliber cannon research and has been tested with OEMs, IWTSD and under a CRADA with the Army Research Laboratory, but independent validation and ammunition-level optimization remain outstanding and will determine operational gains.
