Prolific Shoplifter Jailed for South Wales Supermarket Spree

Police cite CCTV linking him to three weeks of raids across five towns, costing retailers about £4,000.

Overview

  • Ashley Daley, 39, admitted 12 thefts, one attempted theft and possession of a bladed article, and he was sentenced to four months in prison.
  • Police say he targeted supermarkets in Cardiff, Taff's Well, Merthyr Tydfil, Chepstow and Caldicot over three weeks, taking meat, alcohol and chocolate worth about £4,000.
  • Officers stopped his vehicle on February 21 after a theft and found a kitchen knife on him during the arrest.
  • CCTV captured many of the crimes and showed him making no effort to hide, including hauling away an entire Cadbury Mini Eggs display from a Tesco store.
  • The investigating officer called him a prolific, brazen offender with links to shoplifting in the West Midlands, and footage suggested a female accomplice in some incidents, though police have not confirmed action regarding her.
