Professors Suspend Uerj Strike and Announce Return to Classes on July 13

The pause follows state payments, Alerj approval of an ADF benefit and a boost to meal allowances that together created the fiscal space for a conditional truce.

Overview

  • Uerj faculty voted to suspend a three-month strike and plan to resume teaching on July 13 while formally returning to a 'state of greve' to retain leverage and show solidarity with technical staff.
  • Key concessions secured include payment of remaining salary recomposition parcels, approval of the adicional de desenvolvimento funcional (ADF) by Alerj and an increase of the auxílio-alimentação to R$1,500 paid on payroll.
  • Technical-administrative staff who joined the protest in April remain on strike and will hold assemblies to decide next steps, leaving the professors' truce contingent on full implementation of the deals.
  • Uerj management will meet to design a revised academic calendar that guarantees full reposição of missed classes in line with the LDB and requires approval by the university’s governing councils.
  • State fiscal moves under the Propag debt-repayment program helped free room for the measures and the recomposition will benefit roughly 421,000 state public servants, while the ADF compensates workers affected by the loss of triênios.
