Profeco Refreshes Air Passenger Rights and Sets Up Airport Help Desks for 2026 World Cup Travel

The agency stresses that airlines owe clear delay notices, immediate care, and payment within 10 days.

Overview

  • Airlines must explain the cause of delays at the gate or through digital channels, and notify schedule changes at least 24 hours in advance.
  • For delays of 1 to 4 hours, passengers are entitled to food, drinks, and discounts for future trips.
  • For delays over 2 hours and up to 4, compensation must include at least 7.5% of the ticket price.
  • If a delay exceeds 4 hours or a flight is canceled, travelers can choose a refund plus at least 25% compensation, the next available flight with covered expenses, or a later flight with the same minimum payout.
  • Profeco has deployed airport service modules and advises all travelers, including foreign visitors, to keep receipts, review ticket terms, and arrive early.
