Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Lead Assam Congress Meetings on Feb. 18–19 for Candidate Screening

The visit targets candidate vetting with an eye to opposition tie-ups before expected March–April polls.

Overview

  • The AICC general secretary will convene back-to-back sessions in Guwahati on Feb. 18 with the screening panel, the Political Affairs Committee, MLAs, district presidents, frontal bodies and the Congress Legislature Party leader.
  • According to the party’s schedule, she arrives at Rajiv Bhawan at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 18, then continues one-to-one reviews with 21 MLAs and 35 district chiefs before evening meetings and an overnight stay.
  • On Feb. 19 she meets APCC working presidents, MPs, party cells and departments, then holds discussions with Block Congress Committee presidents and APCC office-bearers at Dispur’s Manabendra Sarma Complex.
  • She chairs the Assam screening committee, whose members include MPs Imran Masood and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka along with Sirivella Prasad.
  • Congress signals an alliance approach for elections expected in March–April across 126 seats, with the BJP-led bloc currently reported at BJP 64, AGP 9, UPPL 7 and BPF 3, against Congress 26, AIUDF 15, CPI(M) 1 and one Independent.
