Prime Video Pledges More Than $2 Billion to Latin America and Secures Mexico National Team Matches

Prime Video says the plan will deepen local production, expand live sports, attract more viewers.

Overview

  • Prime Video publicly announced on Thursday, August 20, 2026 that it will invest more than US$2 billion from 2027 through 2030 to boost originals, acquired local content and sports across Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Chile.
  • The company confirmed a four‑year agreement to stream 38 Mexico home matches starting September 26, 2026 and also expanded its NBA coverage into Argentina, Colombia and Chile while increasing games in Mexico and Brazil.
  • Prime Video unveiled a slate of more than 25 new titles for 2027 and set a goal to more than double Latin American local originals by 2030 compared with 2026 production levels.
  • The platform will add in‑app options so users in more countries can subscribe to third‑party services and rent or buy premium movies directly, and it said new training programs with partners such as SAE Institute will build regional production skills.
  • Prime Video framed the push as a bid to grow subscribers and production capacity in a market led by local content and live sports, but companies have not disclosed per‑country budgets, full commercial terms or the scope of exclusivity for key sports rights which could affect broadcasters and pay‑TV partners.
