- Councilmember Curren Price unveiled the “Clear the Streets, Reclaim Our Neighborhoods” campaign Thursday to target abandoned and inoperable cars that he says drive illegal dumping, safety hazards and neighborhood blight.
- Residents can report vehicles to a new District 9 hotline at 213-791-0362 or email cd9abandon@lacity.org, in addition to the city’s 1-800-Abandon line.
- LADOT is the enforcement partner and said it removed 6,661 abandoned vehicles in fiscal year 2025–2026; under the campaign crews mark a tire, wait 72 hours to cite a nonmoving vehicle, then tow about 24 hours later if it still appears abandoned and no one is living inside.
- Price’s office budgeted roughly $25,000 for the initiative, which placed about 20 billboards across South L.A. and will run through year-end, but several residents say the effort is too small and too narrow to address RVs, encampments, trash and other long-running street-blight problems.
- The campaign may speed localized removals and visibility of problem spots, yet community members and advocates say broader sanitation, housing and enforcement resources will determine whether the effort produces lasting changes to daily life on South L.A. streets.
