President Murmu Completes Dived Submarine Sortie Aboard INS Vaghsheer Off Karwar

The Supreme Commander’s visit underscored India’s indigenous Project‑75 submarine capability and the Navy’s undersea readiness during her four‑day regional tour.

Overview

  • Murmu spent more than two hours submerged on the Kalvari‑class INS Vaghsheer after embarking at Karwar Naval Base with Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi.
  • Rashtrapati Bhavan said she was briefed on the submarine arm’s role, observed operational demonstrations and interacted with officers and sailors.
  • In a visitor’s book note, she called the voyage a “very special experience” and described the indigenous platform as a “shining example” of naval professionalism and combat preparedness.
  • INS Vaghsheer is the sixth and final submarine of the Project‑75 Scorpene (Kalvari) line and was commissioned into service in January 2025.
  • She is only the second Indian President to undertake a submarine sortie, following A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s voyage in 2006.
