Overview
- The Chief Minister’s Office announced on Tuesday that President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the BJP-led Odisha government’s second-anniversary programme in Rairangpur on June 20.
- Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district was chosen as the main venue because it is President Murmu’s hometown and a large public meeting is planned there.
- A high-level review meeting of state officials has directed detailed preparations for security, traffic control, parking and public amenities to handle the expected crowd.
- Officials said the President and the Prime Minister are expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several infrastructure, welfare and industrial projects but the final itinerary and project list are still being finalised.
- The visit is being framed by the state BJP as a national endorsement of its two-year record and could strengthen the government’s political standing after it ended the BJD’s 24-year rule in 2024.
