Overview
- Agencies released the DHI environmental report on June 30 and said preparatory works will begin from the end of 2026 to lay groundwork for the Long Island reclamation.
- The works are split into two phases covering about 725 hectares: Phase 1 about 570 ha west of Bedok Jetty starting end‑2026, and Phase 2 about 155 ha to begin only after major events including the 2029 SEA Games.
- Preparatory activities will remove seabed obstructions, build temporary sand bunds and carry out sand infilling at least 130 metres from shore, with silt screens, floating barriers and ongoing environmental monitoring to limit sediment plumes.
- The environmental study commissioned by HDB and published June 30 predicts an overall minor, localised impact but flags risks to turtle nesting and some nearshore habitats, and notes NParks’ egg relocations and monitoring as mitigation.
- Main reclamation and final land plans will not start until further technical studies, mitigation measures and public feedback are completed, and individual phases are expected to take several years with the whole programme unfolding over decades.
