Pratt & Whitney GTF Builds Momentum With British Airways Deal and Lessor Orders

Overview

• British Airways chose Pratt & Whitney GTF engines for 33 firm and 30 option A320neo aircraft and signed a 12-year EngineWise Comprehensive maintenance agreement, with deliveries expected to start in 2027.
• BOC Aviation confirmed an order for up to 220 GTF engines to power as many as 110 A320neo-family aircraft, a deal the lessor originally signed and listed as undisclosed in June 2025.
• Pratt & Whitney reported it has received more than 800 GTF orders and commitments so far in 2026, lifting the program backlog above 8,000 engines and total orders and commitments to over 14,000.
• The GTF platform is promoted as cutting fuel burn by about 20% and shrinking noise footprints by about 75% versus prior-generation engines, and Pratt & Whitney says the upcoming GTF Advantage will offer up to twice the time on wing and improved range.
• Large lessor purchases and bundled long-term maintenance deals could speed airlines' narrowbody renewals, lock in lower lifecycle costs for carriers and shift fleet placements across global networks while more than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft already fly with over 90 customers.
