Overview
- Powerscourt Hotel and Powerscourt Estate confirmed on Friday that the Dialog event scheduled for August will not take place at the Enniskerry venue.
- Organisers said the meeting was hosted by the invitation-only Dialog group, which Peter Thiel co-founded and which draws politicians, tech executives, military figures and investors.
- Opposition politicians and local activists campaigned against the booking over Palantir’s contracts with the Israeli military, US defence bodies and US immigration authorities, arguing those links made the venue politically and ethically untenable.
- The estate had earlier said a legally binding lease limited its ability to cancel but then worked with the hotel and legal advisers before announcing it was relieved the event was called off.
- The cancellation could sharpen scrutiny of elite private networks and of suppliers of surveillance and AI tools, and it may prompt venues and local officials to weigh reputational and legal risks before hosting similar gatherings.
