PowerCo and IG Metall Agree Job-Security Deal for Salzgitter Through 2030

The package trades an immediate 5.5% table‑wage rise for site stability to bolster the battery unit’s competitiveness.

Overview

  • The agreement becomes effective only if both parties accept it by February 28, 2026.
  • The contract runs from March 1, 2026 to December 31, 2030 with a binding exclusion of operational termination dismissals during that period.
  • Roughly 2,000 employees at PowerCo’s Salzgitter cell plant fall under the proposed job protection.
  • A negotiated 5.5% wage increase is deferred until April 1, 2031, and the wage agreement can first be terminated as of March 31, 2027.
  • PowerCo HR chief Sebastian Krapoth says the deal offers planning certainty and strengthens competitiveness, following Volkswagen’s start of battery production in Salzgitter after more than €1 billion invested.
