Power Outages Hit Five Ukrainian Regions After Russian Strikes

Ukrenergo is urging voluntary load‑shifting because cloudy weather has cut rooftop solar output and pushed daytime demand higher

Overview

  • Enemy drone and artillery strikes damaged power infrastructure in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kharkiv, causing outages for consumers in those regions.
  • Emergency repair crews have begun restoring lines where security conditions allow and work is limited near active frontlines for safety reasons.
  • Strong winds and a thunderstorm left 15 settlements in the Sumy region fully or partially without power and local teams started repairs where it is safe to do so.
  • Ukrenergo reported that residential solar output fell because of clouds and rain, which raised grid consumption by about 2.9% in the morning and prompted advice to shift use to 10:00–16:00 and avoid running several high‑power appliances together between 18:00–22:00.
  • No mandatory consumption restrictions are planned for the day and officials warn that rooftop solar can only partly buffer attack damage, so continued strikes or poor weather could widen outages and lengthen restorations.
