Overview
- District staff found visible mold and musty odors in Building 10A/10B before the school year and re-cleaned affected rooms on Aug. 10 after the principal reported the problem.
- An independent industrial hygienist collected air samples on Aug. 15 and Aug. 18 and preliminary lab data released Aug. 22–23 classified eight rooms as low and six rooms as high in mold spores.
- Poway Unified completed targeted cleaning over the weekend, kept 12 cleaned classrooms closed, and scheduled retesting before any students return to those rooms.
- Parents and some staff criticized the district for not notifying families sooner, and the district said it will distribute finalized hygienist reports, investigate moisture sources, and revise carpet-drying and escalation procedures.
- This is the second campus affected this school year after Del Sur Elementary required temporary relocation for mold remediation, and the hygienist warned that short-term air tests are a snapshot that do not set a universal health cutoff.
