Poundbury Man Released on Bail After Weymouth Rape Arrest

Detectives from Dorset County CID are seeking CCTV and witness information to progress the inquiry.

Overview

  • A woman in her 20s reported she was raped in Weymouth town centre in the early hours of Thursday, June 18, with police called at 2.44am and the incident said to have occurred between about 2:00 and 2:30am.
  • Officers placed a cordon around Clifton Place/Gloucester Mews and carried out detailed on-scene enquiries led by Detective Chief Inspector George Graham.
  • Following those enquiries a man in his 20s from Poundbury was arrested on suspicion of rape and has since been released on conditional bail while further checks continue.
  • Police have appealed for dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell footage and for witnesses to contact Dorset Police quoting occurrence number 55260090095 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously.
  • Specially trained officers are supporting the victim and detectives say the ongoing probe could lead to further enquiries or charges depending on new evidence and witness accounts.
