Postbank Moves Cash Services From Post Offices to Standard Bank Network on May 1

The move expands access through a wider network to replace reliance on Post Office counters.

Overview

  • Postbank, which ends cash deposits and withdrawals at South African Post Office branches on Friday, will shift customers to Standard Bank branches, ATMs and selected retail partners.
  • Cash deposits will be done at Standard Bank branches and ATMs, and Standard Bank’s fees and transaction limits will apply.
  • Cash withdrawals will be available at Standard Bank ATMs and at participating retailers through a cardless option that does not require a physical card.
  • SASSA grant recipients will see no change to how grants are paid or accessed, with existing retail and ATM channels continuing as usual.
  • Postbank says the change is meant to cut travel and queues and reach rural areas, supported by more than R500 million in recent tech upgrades and reinforced help lines on phone, WhatsApp and email, with a reminder never to share PINs or one-time passwords.
