Overview
- Toronto, which won Friday's coin toss, opted for the No. 6 pick in the April 13 college draft, giving Portland the first selection in the April 3 expansion draft.
- The expansion draft will run two rounds in a snake format on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. ET, with the Fire and Tempo choosing from players left unprotected by the league’s 13 teams.
- Existing teams must submit protected lists of up to five players by Sunday, March 29, and no more than one player can be taken from any team in a given round, capping losses at two per franchise.
- Each expansion team may select only one potential unrestricted free agent, gaining exclusive rights to negotiate a new CBA supermax deal, and they can make pre-draft select-and-trade or agree-not-to-select deals through April 2.
- The compressed calendar continues with the college draft on April 13, training camps opening April 19, and the season starting May 8, tightening the window for Portland and Toronto to build competitive rosters.
