Port Washington Tops Lincoln 10-3 to Open Metro Region

Overview

  • Port Washington beat Rhode Island’s Lincoln 10-3 in the Metro Region opener, using early runs, a four-run third inning, and a two-RBI double by shortstop Brandon Kien.
  • The game, played at the Little League East Region complex in Bristol, included a 75-minute lightning delay in the fifth inning before play resumed.
  • Pitching by Carlo Cafferata, Drew Theoharis and Jackson Gorynski limited Lincoln to three hits while the Port Washington lineup produced runs in four of six innings.
  • Port Washington will face the winner of Darien (Conn.) and Bayonne (N.J.) on Monday in the winners’ bracket with a victory that would put them into the Metro Region final.
  • The town has rallied behind the team with a big-screen watch party, fundraising and a bus of supporters who traveled to Bristol to help cover travel and lodging for a possible trip to Williamsport.
