Porsche Refreshes Taycan With E‑Shift, Larger Battery and NACS Charging

Porsche says the update will reinvigorate Taycan sales by improving driver engagement, boosting charging compatibility, modernizing software.

Overview

  • Porsche announced Wednesday that the 2027 Taycan adds E‑Shift, a system that simulates eight gears and lets drivers use steering‑wheel paddles in manual or automatic modes with a virtual rev limiter and tuned torque and sound.
  • Taycan, Taycan 4 and Taycan 4S now come standard with a 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus that supports peak 320 kW DC charging and displays battery state of health.
  • U.S. models gain a Tesla‑style NACS fast‑charge inlet on the passenger fender except for the Turbo GT with the Weissach pack, while the driver fender keeps a J1772 AC port and a CCS adapter is included for interoperability.
  • The update installs Porsche Communication Management with up to five times more compute power, improved graphics, AI voice control, fully over‑the‑air updates and a faster 25W wireless phone charger.
  • Orders are open in the U.S. with base pricing from $111,900 plus a $2,350 delivery fee and fall deliveries expected, a move timed to counter falling Taycan sales and align the model with rivals and U.S. charging standards.
