Porsche Adds E‑Shift Virtual Gears to the 2027 Taycan

Overview

  • Porsche formally announced the MY2027 Taycan updates in mid‑June, with coverage and ordering opening on June 17–18.
  • E‑Shift is a software layer that simulates eight gears with steering‑wheel paddles, a virtual rev limiter, model‑specific shift sounds and intentional power interruptions that make acceleration feel less seamless; it is standard on the Turbo GT and optional on other trims.
  • The base battery has been raised to the 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus on more models, enabling up to 320 kW peak DC charging on Porsche’s 800‑volt architecture.
  • Porsche added a native NACS DC inlet on the passenger side while retaining a J1772 AC inlet on the driver side and supplying a CCS adapter to broaden U.S. charging compatibility.
  • The Taycan gets a faster Porsche Communication Management/Porsche Digital Interaction system with AI voice control and full over‑the‑air updates, while performance buyers can order a Manthey kit for the Turbo GT and many E‑Shift installations require bundled paid options that raise the final price.
