- Monseñor Guillermo Cornejo delivered a folder, letters and handmade recycled products from five inmates of the Penal Anexo de Mujeres de Chorrillos to Pope León XIV in Rome in late June 2026.
- The INPE and Cornejo said the Pope received the materials and praised the quality of the work and the inmates' expressed willingness to change.
- The items included wallets, bags, pencil holders, purses, small cases and paintings made in recycling, sewing and arts workshops that form part of the prison's productive training.
- The package formally invited the Pope to visit the Chorrillos women's prison during his November trip to Peru but officials say inclusion of the penitentiary on the papal agenda has not been publicly confirmed.
- The initiative is part of the INPE's 'Cárceles Productivas' policy that mixes private donations of raw material, workshop training and sales to generate income for inmates and to boost rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.
