Overview
- The Vatican announced a consolidated itinerary for November 2026 that covers Uruguay (Nov. 6–8), Argentina (Nov. 8–11) and Peru (Nov. 11–17), with stops planned in cities including Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Luján, Córdoba, Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa.
- A Vatican advance team led by Mons. José Salas Castañeda is due to arrive in late August to inspect venues, review security protocols and produce a final program for public celebrations and official meetings.
- Argentina’s bishops have opened a national collection and launched a song contest running Aug. 10–Sept. 10 to fund and mark the visit, and the national government has pledged a decree declaring the trip of public interest while work on logistics and papamobile arrangements continues.
- Peruvian dioceses are publishing papal texts for use in Masses and the Arzobispado de Lima has created a dedicated website for León XIV’s documents, while national and local officials are planning protocol events such as a visit to the Presidential Palace and meetings with President Keiko Fujimori.
- Local authorities expect a large economic and social impact from the visits, with Chiclayo estimating roughly S/150 million in activity, and analysts say the trip will carry pastoral significance because of the pope’s Peruvian ties and visible political implications for leaders who will greet him.
