Pontiac Teen Seriously Hurt in ATV Rollover

Investigators say the rider was ejected while turning into Murphy Park and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.

Overview

  • The crash that rolled a 2016 Polaris Sportsman into Murphy Park on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard left a 15-year-old driver seriously injured after the ATV flipped while negotiating a turn Monday evening.
  • A 16-year-old second rider was uninjured and was operating a separate ATV that completed the turn, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
  • The injured teen was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital in serious but stable condition and is expected to be transferred to a Children's Hospital for further care.
  • Police said neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the rollover, a detail officials highlighted while describing the crash and ejection.
  • The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash and has reported that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be involved.
