Pontevedra Signs 2025–2029 Commerce Deal That Could Be Preempted by National Pact

Timing of official publication will decide whether the provincial gains take effect.

Overview

  • Business group CEP and the unions CIG, CCOO and UGT signed a provincial commerce agreement for 2025–2029 that covers more than 12,000 workers in Pontevedra, pending publication in the provincial bulletin.
  • The deal lifts wages between 3% and 12% by job category and adds a retroactive review if inflation rises above 3%.
  • Workers gain 18 Saturdays off each year and a paid 20‑minute daily break across all covered stores.
  • The agreement will merge four sub‑sectors into a single wage table by 2029 to end different pay for the same roles.
  • A rival state‑level text from Arte, which represents major chains such as Inditex and Mango, could override the provincial pact if it is published first in Spain’s official gazette, and the CIG has called a Galicia‑wide strike for April 27 to try to block it.
