Overview
- A pedestrian was struck and pronounced dead on South Federal Highway in Pompano Beach after being hit near a bus bench, according to Broward deputies.
- The Broward Sheriff's Office identified the driver as 47-year-old Jo Anne Llera of Pompano Beach, who was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
- Deputies say the BMW rear-ended another car, moved around it, drifted into the west swale, hit a covered bus bench where the man was located, then struck light poles, a tree and several unoccupied vehicles on a dealership lot.
- Crime-scene tape, a heavily damaged white vehicle and a yellow tarp covering the body were visible at the scene while southbound lanes between Southeast 9th and Southeast 12th Streets were closed for the investigation.
- The investigation remains active, officials have not released the victim's name, and deputies have not said whether charges will be filed as they continue to reconstruct the vehicle's path.
