Poll Finds Britons Say Overpriced Contracts Cost Them About £576 a Year

Widespread frustration with rising bills is driving demand for shorter or rolling deals and has led Community Fibre to promote a monthly eSIM

Overview

  • A OnePoll survey of 2,000 UK adults published on Thursday found 38% feel locked into contracts they judge poor value and respondents collectively estimate they overpay by about £576 each year.
  • Respondents most often flagged TV packages (32%), energy contracts (26%) and mobile phone deals (14%) as the services where they feel overcharged.
  • More than a quarter (26%) said they had forgotten an active paid subscription, most often video (26%), music (15%) or software (13%), costing an average estimated £54 before cancellation.
  • Almost half of those polled (48%) prefer shorter, more flexible contracts and 41% are exploring bundling, while the typical person has about seven subscriptions and 9% say they struggle to monitor them all.
  • Community Fibre commissioned the poll and is backing a monthly, rolling eSIM promoted by personal finance commentator Peter Komolafe, with the company and experts urging regular review of contracts and noting the reported cost figures are self‑assessed survey estimates.
