Police Treat Aberdeen Hospital Building Fire as Deliberate

Police now say the blaze at Woodend Hospital’s derelict Westholme block was set on purpose.

Overview

  • Police Scotland said they are treating the Monday night fire at Woodend Hospital’s Westholme building as wilful.
  • Officers reported no injuries, confirmed the fire is out, and kept a cordon in place as enquiries continue.
  • About 60 firefighters with nine appliances and specialist units fought a large, well developed blaze through the night.
  • NHS Grampian said the derelict block sits about 60 metres from the nearest occupied hospital building and that no patients or staff were inside.
  • Residents were urged to keep windows closed because of smoke, and images show severe roof damage pending a formal assessment.
