Police Step Up Mount Buffalo Search for Dezi Freeman as Focus Shifts to Remains

Gunshot-linked intelligence has narrowed the five-day operation to a 1.3 km² zone.

Overview

  • More than 100 personnel, including specialist units, drones and NSW cadaver dogs, are combing rugged bushland on day two of the targeted search.
  • The operation is concentrated in terrain adjoining December’s search area, where earlier efforts found no trace of Freeman.
  • Detective Inspector Adam Tilley says police strongly believe Freeman is deceased with no proof of life since August 26, though other scenarios remain under consideration.
  • Taskforce Summit has worked through over 2,000 intelligence items, with a $1 million reward and possible indemnity still available for information leading to his arrest.
  • Freeman was last seen fleeing into bushland after two officers were fatally shot and a third was seriously injured during a warrant at his Porepunkah property.
