Police Seek Man After Officer Injured in Sunderland as Six Teenagers Released on Bail

The early-stage investigation relies on public CCTV and phone footage to identify other people involved.

Overview

  • Officers were called after a suspected burglary in the Burdon area led to a car being taken and driven across into the Durham force area.
  • The vehicle was found parked on Cooperative Terrace and when an officer approached on foot it drove off and struck a parked car, injuring the officer.
  • The injured Durham officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged.
  • Six boys aged 13 to 17 who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
  • Northumbria Police, working with Durham Constabulary, say the probe is at an early stage and they are asking the public to report CCTV, dashcam or phone footage and to identify a man pictured in the area.
