Police Rescue Three Minors From Bar in Monterón and Detain Two Women

Authorities say the case is a possible human trafficking probe that will determine whether the detained women face labor exploitation charges

Overview

  • Specialized police from Sullana’s criminal investigations unit and Piura’s regional intelligence carried out the tip-driven raid at the La Teresita bar in Monterón and found three girls working there who showed signs of alcohol consumption.
  • The rescued adolescents, aged 13, 15 and 17, were placed under state protection and referred for medical and psychological evaluations.
  • Two adults detained at the scene were identified as T. M. Y., 46, known as “La Chata,” and D. E. M., 19, known as “Muñeca,” and are under investigation for alleged trafficking in the form of labor exploitation.
  • Police say the intervention was led by the Sullana department’s kidnappings and extortion area together with Divreint-Piura, signaling the case is being handled as suspected human trafficking rather than a routine labor infraction.
  • Prosecutors and specialized units will seek to determine how the minors were recruited and maintained at the establishment and the outcome could prompt further probes into exploitation in local entertainment venues.
