Police Probe Pushcart ATM Theft on Karnataka’s NH-48 After Machine Is Recovered

Police cite a shut, unsupervised kiosk with disabled sensors as a key factor enabling the theft.

Overview

  • CCTV captured three unidentified men removing an ATM from an unattended kiosk near Hosa Vantamuri in Belagavi district on Monday night.
  • Investigators say the suspects lifted the machine onto a pushcart and fled, with later footage showing two men returning with an empty cart.
  • The ATM, which held over Rs 1 lakh, was found a few metres away after the culprits failed to open it, and the cash was intact.
  • Officers say the kiosk had been decommissioned with security sensors off, lacked a guard and a staircase, and sat near a newly opened ATM about 200 metres away.
  • A case has been registered and police are analysing CCTV and other leads to identify the suspects.
