Overview
- A man entered a Rewe supermarket in Marienfelde shortly after 10pm on Friday and held a female employee hostage through the night.
- Police set up a large cordon, maintained contact with the suspect and kept special units and emergency services staged outside the store.
- Around 9:20am on Saturday, SEK officers entered the market and used a Taser to incapacitate and arrest the suspect, then freed the woman.
- Both the suspect and the freed woman were taken to hospital with light injuries or shock and no severe injuries have been reported.
- The Berlin public prosecutor has taken over the investigation, officers are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses, and the motive remains unclear.
